CARACAS, 4 September 2019—UNAIDS Senior AIDS Security and Humanitarian Response Advisor, Mr. Gary Jones, will be on official visit to Venezuela between September 4th and 13th. The mission is geared toward developing strategies to strengthen the country’s HIV response in the context of the country’s complex situation.
During this mission, Mr. Jones will hold meetings with national health authorities, civil society organizations and professionals linked to the national AIDS response as well as representatives of the United Nations System. These meetings are aimed at sharing experiences and assessing gaps, as well as offering recommendations on actions and opportunities for the effective integration of the HIV response into humanitarian response plans within Venezuela.
Within the framework of this mission, Mr. Jones will also visit the UNAIDS Regional Office in Panama to learn about the work carried out through the Regional Interagency Coordination Platform. The Platform articulates the Regional Response to refugees and migrants from Venezuela in order to strengthen the humanitarian response approach at the regional level and in the host countries.
